A short guide to identifying which Fox ESS batteries you have.

Fox Energy Cube EC2900

Version 1 and Version 2

For customers expanding a Fox system which is using the Energy Cube EC2900 2.88kWh batteries, it is important to identify if you have a Version 1 or Version 2 Master battery.

There is no technical difference between them and both are considered current models, however supply chain issues resulted in a change of semiconductor used in the product meaning there are compatibility issues.

How do I know if my EC2900 Battery is V1 or V2?

In some cases, the V2 batteries will have a coloured sticker attached to the packaging stating “V2.0” which makes your life easy. However, this does not apply to all batteries so we prefer a more robust check to avoid any potential issues.

The best identifier is the battery serial number which you can find on the packaging and on the battery itself. This is usually a small rectangle sticker containing a QR Code and the letters “SN:” followed by a series of letters and numbers.  All Fox serial numbers have a specific prefix to enable you to identify the product easily, for example:

VERSION 1 BATTERIES - Serial Number Prefix 60CM292

VERSION 2 BATTERIES - Serial Number Prefix 60TM292 / JM292 / KM292 / 8M292 / QM292

Type A and Type B Connection (Applies to V2 only)

Another consideration for Fox EC2900 is to ensure you purchase a Slave battery with the correct connection type.  This only applies to V2 battery with systems installed from around November 2023.

How do I know if my EC2900 Battery has a Type A or Type B connection?

The batteries will usually have a coloured identification sticker attached to the box, but for peace of mind we can also identify using the serial number.

TYPE A BATTERIES - Serial Number Prefix 60JM292 / KM292 / 8M292 / QM292

TYPE B BATTERIES - Serial Number Prefix 60CM292 / TM292

Can I mix different Fox batteries?

We are commonly asked if different Fox batteries can be used together in the same system, for example “can I add a HV25 battery to a HV2600 stack?” or “can I add an EC2900 battery to my existing EC4300 system?”

The short answer to this is no. Each battery has it’s own unique technical specifications, meaning they cannot work together and as such an attempt to do this would void the manufacturers warranty and your system would likely throw up error messages, preventing you from using it at all.

The only exception to this rule is related to the Fox’s Low Voltage battery options: LV52 and LV54. These can be mixed in the same system to give you some flexibility
